Are you a naked mole rat?
What exactly is a naked mole rat? We’re glad you asked. Naked mole rats are mammals that live underground. They have pink wrinkly skin and look like hot dogs that have been left in the microwave too long. They are typically about 3 inches long. Naked mole rats have large, sharp teeth, tiny, tiny eyes that remain shut most of the time and no external ears. They will almost never see the light of day and remain in underground tunnels that are sealed from the outside (resulting in very little fresh air).
Naked mole rats have nearly the same genetic material as other members of their colony because they inbreed so much. They eat roots and are ruled by a queen – sort of like the social structure of a bee colony. Naked mole rats roll in their feces and urine so that other members of the colony will recognize their scent. This is all true. You can go check it in an encyclopedia or with your local zoologist.
Okay, let’s ask the $64,000 question: Are you a naked mole rat? Have you spent all of your life tunneling underground, avoiding the truth and ignoring the difficult questions of life? Are you blinded to spiritual realities and deaf to spiritual truth? Are you afraid to come into the light of God’s truth because the evil in your own heart will be exposed? Are you suffocating in the stale air of self-centeredness? Have you become identical to so much of the rest of the world, buying its lies and eagerly clamoring after its goodies? Are you a slave to the tyrannical entertainment industry of this world? Are you rolling around in the “feces” of this world? …Then you are a naked mole rat.
Some people seem to be quite proud to be naked mole rats. “This world is all there is, so live it up while you’re here.” Some seem to think that things are really great down here in these musty tunnels. If that is really the case, then by all means, continue to dig down, eat your roots, be a slave of another, and stay deep underground. You are dead already.
But if they are wrong…and if humans are more than naked mole rats…then there is a world of light above you that you have never glimpsed. Jesus Christ said that he was the light of the world. He said that the truth that he brought would set you free. He came to open your eyes and unstop your ears, to breath new life into you, to wash you of your filth, and to make you fit to enjoy the pleasures and excitements of life above ground. Don’t be a naked mole rat.
