Did you know YOU are a missionary?
Everyone is a missionary and everyone attempts, at one time or another, to convert someone to something.Your crusade might be your favorite food, “Have you ever eaten at _____?You’ve got to try their _____!They’re the best I’ve ever tasted!”Or it might be a favorite video game, “Have you played _____ yet?It’s incredible!”Or maybe it’s a TV show or movie, “Have you ever seen _____?It was sooo funny. You’ve got to see it!”
Everyone tries to “convert” people to the things that they love or enjoy.We all try to help those we love (and even mere acquaintances) to benefit from the things that have benefited us.
If God offers true, lasting happiness, forgiveness of sins, cleansing from guilt and shame and hope for eternity with Him in “fullness of joy and pleasures evermore,” wouldn’t it only be natural that we would be missionaries trying to convert people to the ultimate good?
You might do someone a bit of good if the food that you tell them about is tasty.You might give a person a little bit of enjoyment if they check out a good movie.But if you could give someone the ultimate answers to the questions of life and hope for eternal life after death, it would only make sense that you would try to persuade people to enjoy what you’ve tasted, right?
So, who was the object of your last “crusade”?If you think about what you “sold” that person, what good will it do that person when she is lying on her death bed?Jesus said in Mark 8:36, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet forfeit his soul?”
Lay down the trinkets and fads of this world and take up your cross and follow Jesus.You will find your life in Him and you will have Him to give to those around you.There is no more loving thing than to give others the Only One who can benefit them both now and for eternity.
