Our simple answer to this question is no, God is not the author of evil. The Bible makes it very clear that "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). The Bible also says, "Let no one say when he is tempted, ’I am being tempted by God,’ for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire" (James 1:13-14). So we would say that there is no evil in God, and God cannot be the direct and immediate source of evil, because that would make him evil.
Our more complicated answer is that although God is not the direct and immediate source of evil, God does ordain everything that happens in this world, whether good or evil. That is, God is in charge of this world, and nothing happens if he doesn’t will it to happen. That is why God can also say, "I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things" (Isaiah 45:6-7). So evil will not happen if God does not choose for it to happen. Although Satan and wicked people are the direct source of evil, God rules over everything, and in this way, nothing evil happens unless God wills it to happen.

Atheists often argue against God’s existence from the problem of evil. Their argument goes as follows: If God is all loving, He would have prevented evil from entering the universe; if God is all powerful, He could have prevented evil; evil exists, therefore there is no such God.

What is sin?
You have probably heard of the Ten Commandments. If so, you might think that sin is what happens when you break one of these commandments. This is true. But the law of God is broader than just the Ten Commandments. As Jesus said in Matthew 22:34-40, the entire law can be summarized by the commandments to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you mind" and to "love your neighbor as yourself." So sin would be any instance in which you do not love God with everything you have or don’t love a fellow human being the way you love yourself. When defined this way, we see that sin might encompass a whole lot more than we may have thought at first. Have you loved God with everything you have today?

This is somewhat of a trick question. Bad things don’t happen to good people for the simple reason that good people don’t exist. As we argued before all people are born into sin and are sinners. The thoughts of our heart are evil, and we constantly rebel against the One who created us. So let’s get this straight. There are no good people. Once we realize this, then the question is turned on its head: why do good things happen to bad people? This is a much better question, and the answer is God’s mercy.

If a judge in your county let guilty criminals off the hook because he wanted to be a nice guy, he would be kicked off the bench.
So then, how can God be both fair and forgive sinners? We are all sinners and yet those who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord are forgiven of their sins. How can the Judge declare guilty people innocent? Should God be impeached?

Most people say "Yes." In fact, many might even agree that there is just one God. Some might say, "I’ve made my peace with the big man upstairs." Others say something like, "I believe in God and live a pretty good life. Hey, as long as you are sincere, that’s all that matters, right?"

George Will once wryly commented that there is nothing too vulgar in our experience that would prevent us from flying a professor in from somewhere to defend it. Why this attack on our teachers and our institution? Because it is here, in our lecture halls, that were are being told that truth is dead. I encourage the reader to evaluate with me the issue of truth and relativism on our campus.

It’s been said that God created man in His image, and then man returned the favor. In this postmodern world, it is not uncommon for people to create their own brand of religion where they cut and paste the things they like from various perspectives to suit their own tastes. They are usually sure to leave out anything and everything that is either unpalatable or politically incorrect.
